Jason Vitale Community Service Award Winner
The Baldwin Civic Association is proud to announce the 2021 awardee of the Jason Vitale Community Service Award: Tess Ferguson. Tess will be attending Ithaca College in the fall with a double major in journalism and environmental science.
Much of Tess’s high school experience was defined by community service. Not only did Tess help promote and facilitate community involvement in the Out of the Darkness Walks for Suicide Prevention, she used a position as writer/editor for Be the Change to inspire K-12 students to use their power to catalyze change. And as a volunteer for the Together United Organization, Tess worked to empower youth to create a sustainable lifestyle. She says “It is service projects like these that highlight the true meaning of conservation, and as I continue to learn more, I hope to be able to utilize my education to host similar events.”
Tess was also president of Athletes Helping Athletes, was a certified HIV/AIDS peer educator and executive board member, and was a member of the Principal’s Leadership Council, which met regularly with school administrators to provide ideas on how to make positive change in the school community.
In college, Tess intends to pursue her studies with the goal of “ultimately creating a lasting impact in my hometown of Baldwin.”
